Philip Benevento History Internship Mattatuck Museum, Waterbury, Connecticut The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, Connecticut is seeking a summer intern to work in the museum archives. The Mattatuck Museum is both an art and a local history museum with manuscript, printed, and photographic archives dating from the late 17th century to the present. The selected intern will work two to three days a week for six weeks during the summer, alongside the museum archivist. The goal is for the intern to produce a work of scholarship (either oral or written) drawing on the resources in the museum archives. This year’s focus will be on processing, organizing, and making the Mattatuck Museum’s Chase Family Papers accessible to the public. This collection contains the personal and professional papers of the Chase Family. The Chase Family, headed most prominently by August Sabin Chase, was an industrialist family with deep roots in Waterbury history through its extensive industrial, financial, and philanthropic activities. Their papers consist of personal materials, correspondence, Chase family newsletters, and business papers. At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will create a finding aid accessible to researchers interested in the Chase Family and their enduring legacy in Waterbury. The intern will be paid a stipend of $1,000 upon completion of their work over the summer. The start of the internship is flexible and spans 6 weeks. Requirements: • Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program. • Major field related to history, urban studies, American studies, or library science. • A curious mind and strong written communication are especially desirable. Preference will be given to applicants who live in Waterbury or are current college students in Waterbury. The deadline for applying is April 18, 2025.
