Arts Gowanus is pleased to announce a new group exhibition, We Belong–Celebrating Brooklyn’s Diverse Roots, at the Fall 2025 iteration of The Affordable Art Fair, happening September 17-21 at Starrett-Lehigh Building, 601 West 26th Street, New York, NY 10001. Brooklyn is one of the most diverse areas in the U.S. People have long come here from every corner of the world in the pursuit of security and happiness–for themselves and future generations. For this exhibition, Arts Gowanus invites artists to reflect on what led them or their ancestors to Brooklyn. Is their family indigenous to the area? Did their ancestors come during the waves of European immigration in the 19th and 20th centuries? Did they themselves leave behind hometowns and families to chase their dreams in Brooklyn? We Belong celebrates Brooklyn’s diverse roots and the ways its residents’ infinite cultural backgrounds and experiences shape the city we see today.
