The Amistad Center for Art & Culture is a nationally recognized museum and cultural institution dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and celebrating the art, history, and cultural contributions of people of African descent. Founded in 1987 and housed within Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, the oldest continuously operating public art museum in the United States, The Amistad Center stewards one of the nation’s most significant collections of African American art and historical materials. Through exhibitions, educational programs, community partnerships, and public events, the Center fosters dialogue, inspires learning, and connects diverse audiences to the rich experiences and achievements of the African diaspora.

Bridging Freedom: A Juneteenth Celebration
Celebrate Juneteenth across both sides of the river at Great River Park and Mortensen Riverfront Plaza—hosted with the City of Hartford, Town of East Hartford, and Riverfront Recapture, with Music is Life curating the Hartford mainstage entertainment, plus live music, DJs, food trucks, a mental health wellness village, and family-friendly fun.
35th Juneteenth Jubilee Celebration
Join us for an unforgettable evening of music, culture, cuisine, and celebration at the Juneteenth Jammin’ Jubilee, a vibrant old-school house-party style celebration honoring freedom, community, and the African American experience. Hosted by The Amistad Center for Art & Culture, this special evening celebrates the 35th year of the Amistad Center’s annual Juneteenth celebration, a beloved tradition that brings our community together to honor the history, resilience, and cultural contributions of people of African descent. This is not a traditional gala — it’s a celebration!
